Goal Horizon Map

The Intent

Translation is the act of turning abstract values and distant goals into concrete, actionable steps. The Goal Horizon Map begins Translation by categorising your intrinsic goals by scope and distance, creating a structure to what matters most without defining how to achieve it yet.

The Practice

Gather your intrinsic goals, values, and desires uncovered and surfaced in Illumination. Sort them into three horizons: The long-term horizon, consisting of your desired end states or lifelong directions. It is where goals that span over a decade, or even your entire life, rest. The mid-term horizon, all the goals, pursuits, and projects that span multiple years but are not the end of your goals. The short-term horizon, which are short and concise goals, plans, and desires achievable within a year. Observe which short-term goals serve your mid-term goals, just as which mid-term goals serve your long-term ones. Re-order and merge overlapping goals, so that the horizons flow into one another.

The Insight

Categorising and structuring your goals clarifies importance, dependency, and relevancy. The Goal Horizon Map makes long-term goals that seemed imposing and underwhelming more manageable, as the false sense of urgency is removed and the distance put into perspective.
